ATTRACTION OF LADAKH: THIKSE MONASTERY
One of the most pious and highest visited monasteries in Ladakh, Thikse Monastery belongs to the Gelug sect of Buddhism. Perched on a hilltop within the Thiksey hamlet; around 19km towards the eastern side of Leh, and it resemble much to the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet.
A twelve-storeyed hierarchal monastery that reaches a height of 3,600m above the sea level, it is indeed one of the most remarkable structures in the entire Indus Valley. With the Maitreya Temple as its main attraction points, this sacred monastery also houses numerous Buddhist art pieces, stupas, thangkas, paintings, statues, and several other antiques from the past.
